UAE e-invoicing timeline & SME readiness guide
The UAE e-invoicing regime requires structured invoice exchange and reporting between accredited service providers — not emailed PDFs or OCR-scanned invoices. This guide summarises the current timeline, who is in scope, how to prepare and where TaxSey can help today.
Reviewed 6 November 2026. Primary sources: Ministry of Finance e-invoicing initiative; FTA 25 October 2026 deadline announcement.
Answer first
The UAE e-invoicing system has started a phased rollout. Businesses with annual revenue of at least AED 50 million had to appoint an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) by 30 October 2026 (a deadline that has now passed) and go live from 1 January 2027. Businesses below that threshold must appoint an ASP by 31 March 2027 and go live from 1 July 2027. In-scope government entities have their own schedule starting later in 2027.
TaxSey is not currently an Accredited Service Provider. We can help you understand the scope, prepare your invoice data and select an ASP, but we cannot submit structured e-invoices on your behalf.
Current phased timeline
| In-scope group | Appoint ASP by | Go live from |
|---|---|---|
| Businesses with annual revenue ≥ AED 50 million | 30 October 2026 (passed) | 1 January 2027 |
| Other in-scope businesses (below AED 50 million) | 31 March 2027 | 1 July 2027 |
| In-scope government entities | 31 March 2027 | 1 October 2027 |
| Pilot / voluntary adoption | Available from 1 July 2026 | |

Who is in scope
The initial scope targets B2B and B2G transactions of businesses carrying out economic activities in the UAE. Note:
- • VAT registration status does not determine e-invoicing scope by itself. Being non-registered for VAT does not automatically remove a business from the e-invoicing mandate. Vendor FAQs saying otherwise should not be relied on in place of MoF rules.
- • B2C transactions are expected to follow a different path; check the latest MoF amendments before assuming your retail flow is excluded.
- • Non-residents making taxable supplies in the UAE should check their position with a UAE tax adviser; the scope of their obligations can depend on the counterparty and the transaction.
A PDF invoice is not an e-invoice
UAE e-invoicing is a structured exchange built on Peppol-compatible transport and the PINT-AE data model. The invoice is machine-readable, validated against rules at issuance, and transmitted through accredited service providers directly to the counterparty and the FTA. Scanning or OCR of a PDF is not sufficient compliance.
Structured data
Invoice fields (TRN, items, taxes, totals) carried as data, not images. Validation happens before issuance, not after.
Five-corner exchange
Sender → sender's ASP → receiver's ASP → receiver, with the FTA reporting corner. The ASP signs and reports the invoice.
Accreditation
Only MoF-accredited ASPs can transmit UAE e-invoices. Your ERP or accounting software connects to the ASP, not directly to the FTA.
SME readiness checklist
- 1
Confirm your go-live date
Identify the wave you fall into using current and projected annual revenue. If you are growing through AED 50m, plan for the earlier deadline.
- 2
Audit your invoice data
Check TRN accuracy, counterparty master data, product/service codes, tax codes and unit measures. Correct errors before you connect to an ASP.
- 3
Select an Accredited Service Provider
Use the MoF register of accredited providers. Compare pricing, supported ERPs/accounting systems, Peppol/PINT-AE support, Arabic field handling and support model.
- 4
Connect your accounting system
Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Xero, Tally, SAP and Oracle each handle UAE e-invoicing differently. Check your plan's inclusions and any per-invoice fees before signing.
- 5
Run a pilot on the voluntary phase
Test with a few willing counterparties before your mandatory go-live date. Reconcile e-invoices back to your ledger and VAT return, and resolve validation errors early.
- 6
Update your AP side too
You will receive e-invoices as well as send them. Make sure incoming invoices land in the accounts payable queue, are validated and linked to purchase orders.
How TaxSey can help today
- • Readiness review: data quality, TRN hygiene and chart-of-accounts mapping.
- • ASP selection support, including a short-list against MoF's current accredited provider register.
- • VAT impact: aligning the e-invoice data flow with VAT return preparation so reconciliation is not duplicated.
- • Internal process change: who approves, who sends, how exceptions are handled.
We do not hold MoF Accredited Service Provider status. Any marketing that suggested TaxSey directly transmits UAE e-invoices should be read as a readiness statement, not an accreditation claim. If direct transmission is needed, engage an accredited ASP.
Frequently asked questions
When must an SME comply?
Under the current timeline, businesses below the AED 50 million annual-revenue threshold must appoint an ASP by 31 March 2027 and go live from 1 July 2027. Businesses at or above AED 50 million went live from 1 January 2027 after the 30 October 2026 appointment deadline. Confirm the latest dates against MoF announcements before planning.
Is a PDF invoice enough once I'm in scope?
No. In-scope businesses must issue structured e-invoices through an accredited provider using the PINT-AE data model. PDFs, scanned images and OCR outputs do not satisfy the mandate.
Does non-VAT registration remove me from the mandate?
Not necessarily. VAT registration status and e-invoicing scope are different concepts. Some vendor FAQs equate them; MoF rules do not. Check your scope with a tax adviser rather than relying on competitor documentation.
Is TaxSey an accredited ASP?
No. The MoF accreditation register is the authoritative source for who is an Accredited Service Provider. TaxSey offers readiness and selection help, not direct e-invoice transmission.
Can my existing accounting software send UAE e-invoices?
Many major accounting platforms have announced UAE e-invoicing capability or partner integrations, often as a paid add-on. Capability varies by edition and plan. Confirm with your vendor before buying an additional tool.
